RSM Presidential address: “The changing shape of the Goddess of Fertility”, the impact of globesity in the gynaecologist’s world

Join Miss Sangeeta Agnihotri, President-Elect of the  Obstetrics & Gynaecology Academic Council, for the Presidential Address to learn more about a brief history of the female form and the consequences for female health i.e. from epigenetics to PCOS, stillbirth and risks of cancer.

Sangeeta is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology in Barts Health Trust. Sangeeta qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London, and underwent her post-graduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Western Australia, and both the Oxford and North Thames deaneries. She subspecialized in Maternal Medicine at the Royal Free, and was awarded subspecialty accreditation by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). Amongst the roles she holds are Perinatal Lead, Co-chair for the Equality and Inclusion Board and Inclusivity Ambassador for the trust. She is a member of the RCOG Faculty and an examiner for the RCOG part 3 Membership exam.

Sangeeta’s academic work focusses on areas of education that impact on patient care; she has completed a Masters in Medical Education and is an editor and contributor for the award-winning textbook, “Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the essential curriculum”. The book came out in 2009 when it became a best-selling standard early textbook for its fresh and evidence based approach. She has published on women’s health issues from The Telegraph to Glamour Magazine and is an expert speaker for the charity, Wellbeing of Women. As an expert reviewer, she is an editor of patient information resources for the BMJ and BUPA and reviews medical articles and text books for the BMJ.

Sangeeta has recently been elected the President of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM). Sangeeta joined the RSM as a student member, and has been an active member of the Section, previously holding the positions of honorary secretary and vice president.

Amongst her other achievements, Sangeeta is the Chairman for the National Obesity Forum (NOF) and was a previous board member and is the scientific advisor to the Child Growth Foundation. She is principally interested in education in women’s health in order to end inequity, promote dignity, and improve women’s health globally.
