In 1994, American neuroscientist Dr Stephen Porges proposed the Polyvagal Theory, a theory that links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of physiological state in the expression of behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders. Holly Bridges, an Australian therapist, author and keynote speaker has developed the Autism Reframe Therapy program (A.R.T.) based upon Porges Polyvagal Theory, which incorporates the principles of co-design and brain plasticity.
