Ballet In The Making (1932)

Ballet in the Making is a British Pathé newsreel feature showing young pupils at what paper records identify as the Mayfair School of Dancing. The film opens with a long shot of pre-teen girls practising in a hall while classmates look on. Close shots capture two youngsters working at the barre before a mirror, their teacher visible in reflection as they practise toe steps and flowing arm movements. Older girls then perform a more polished routine, followed by a lively sequence of pirouettes and group formations sweeping across the floor. Framed by Pathé’s characteristically playful commentary, the film presents ballet as both disciplined training and youthful charm, celebrating how early instruction shapes aspiring dancers into the “flowers of the Ballet”.
