RSPH responds to ban on single-use vapes

RSPH responds to ban on single-use vapes by the UK Government: In response, Matthew Bazeley-Bell, Deputy Chief Executive, Royal Society for Public Health, commented:

“Vapes are highly addictive, and we need to ensure that young people who have never smoked are not taking up this habit. Disposable vapes are cheap and readily available which is why they are so popular, posing a serious risk to both public health and the environment. They have been heavily marketed to children and young people, leading many to become addicted unnecessarily.

Banning single-use vapes is a very welcome step from the Government. However, we must also be wary. If reusable vapes begin to match disposables in price and accessibility, we risk reinforcing the same ‘give it a go’ mentality that has encouraged so many young people to start vaping in the first place.”

This comment is in direct response to the DEFRA’s embargoed announcement that the ban on sale and supply of single-use vapes that came into force on Sunday 1 June.
